Swachata Abhiyan stays a gimmick: No ground reality in Gurgaon
The Swachata Abhiyan is making a lot of news these days for some positive and negative feedback. While the thought behind the drive is noble, yet politically motivated leaders are using the drive to meet their political ends.

In Gurgaon too, Haryana Chief Minister, Manoharlal Khattar, has launched a Swachata drive and leaders (small and big) are making it to the news with a broom in hand, sweeping the roads of the millenium city. However, when we discovered a huge bundle of rubble, dirt and rubbish in front of a huge poster of the Swachata drive in Gurgaon, we knew that only the leaders are gainning from the drive and the city is not.

Rejangla Chowk, the war memorial in Palam Vihar, Gurgaon is a relatively cleaner place when compared to other parts of Old Gurgaon. For a pedestrian, in a normal day, it is quite natural to see rubbish and dirt in and around the road of the war memorial. However, a heap of dirt in front of a big poster of Swachh Bharat, Swachh Haryana poses a lot of questions. It points to the fact, once again to the fact that this drive is nothing but a politically motivated activity and the betterment of the country is not the real issue. It is just a gimmick, aped by many leaders and the thought does not match the ground realities of the city.

On asking a passer by, about the heap of rubbish, he smiled and said, ''this is normal, but yes this is shameful, as it is just in front of the poster. The leaders must take care and really clean up Gurgaon as that would help us and make a healthy environment. We should also contribute in whatever small way we can.''

On Tuesday, HUDA had conducted a Swachata drive in Old Gurgaon and had covered the area of Sector 14, 10A, 23 and 27 as well as some parts of Old Gurgaon. However there are piles of garbage is still present in these places.
