Swami Vivekanada's followers are celebrating his 150 birth anniversary in various forms and events. On this day, the man who inspired many great minds is being honoured by people remembering his words and views.
IT IS said that only once in many years does a spiritual soul, who is a part of God and godly in his words and action, graces the world in the form of a human. Swami Vivekanada was one of the godly spirits, who believed in soul and hence in God. For him “It is child's talk that a man dies and goes to heaven. We never come nor go. We are where we are. All the souls that have been, are, and will be, are on one geometrical point.” On his 150 birthday, January 12, while students are celebrating the National Youth Day, one should not forget that he has left with us great gems in the forms of thoughts. For him God existed in soul as he was quoted as saying, “There is really but one Self in the universe, all else is but Its manifestations.”
Vivekanada's thoughts are still quoted all over the world, he was a major influence on the freedom fighter
Subhash Chandra Bose and Arobindo Ghose considers him as his spiritual mentor. As per Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, “Vivekananda saved Hinduism, saved
India,” reported Zee News. Thus, in a way he shaped the minds of many great men of India and gave them a direction.
He born in Shimla Pally, a suburb of Kolkata, and named as Narendranath Dutta. Born to a religious mother and an attorney father, Vivekananda got the best of both worlds. In his youth he studied for a brief period in the presidency college and later became the member of the breakaway faction from the Brahmo Samaj led by Keshab Chandra Se. Thus, there was always a balance between the traditional and the progressive in his life which shaped his thoughts and ideas. However, it was the meeting with the spiritual guru Ramakrishna that actually was a turning point in his life.
Vivekananda changed the way people thought and told them that reason and religion can go hand in hand and to honour the great man, his birthday is celebrated as the National youth Day.
