Swami Vivekananda: 150 years of wisdom

Saturday was a remarkable day for us Indians as we celebrated 150th birth anniversary of great monk and propagator of Hindu philosophy Swami Vivekananda, who was born to Narendra Nath Dutt in on 12 January 1863.

HE LUCIDLY explained the intricate Vedanta philosophy to the entire world and also founded Ramkrishna math and Ramkrishna mission in the memory and love to his guru Swami Ramkrishna.

Swami Vivekananda’s birthday is commemorated as National Youth Day. The question is what is the relevance of the Youth Day in the present context, how can we find the path in the hazy and illusionary problems we are facing today?

The pearls of wisdom of Vivekananda are still relevant as he said, “This national ship of ours, ye children of the Immortals, my countrymen, has been playing for the ages, carrying civilization and enriching the whole word with its inestimable treasures. But today it may have sprung a leak and got damaged, through your own faults or whatever cause it matters not. What would you have placed yourselves in it, do now? Would you go about cursing it and quarrelling among yourselves! Would you all not unite together and put your best efforts to stop the holes? Let us all gladly give our hearts, blood to do this, and if we fail in the attempt, let us all sink and die together with blessings and not curse on our lips.”

Taking leads from these words and making them our guide, we can all solve our complex problems as we are witnessing today in the society. It is indeed a day to resolve, not for ourselves, but for the good of society for our children to make the nation a better place for all and live with compassion and humanity.
