Swaraj India promoting women leaders of substance in MCD polls
In a press conference held yesterday, Swaraj India President Yogendra Yadav has said that his party is promoting women Leaders of substance in MCD polls.

"The motive of having a 50 per cent reservation for women in MCD elections was to increase the participation of women in electoral politics. But unfortunately, the parties which pretend to support women reservation have made a joke out of it in the MCD elections," Swaraj India's President Yogendra Yadav said yesterday at a press conference. The press conference was also attended by a number of female candidates of the party. Yadav also said, "I believe that without women participation, no change can be successful."

Yogendra Yadav also displayed the official list of candidates of the Congress party in which most of the women candidates have been introduced as someone's wife or daughter. Yogendra Yadav sarcastically said that, albeit all the parties are doing the same thing, poor Congress has mistakenly released the list without even removing the 'wife / daughter' column. Not only congress, but BJP and AAP are also plagued by the same disease. He said that such a practice by mainstream parties is making a mockery of women reservation in the electoral politics of the country's capital.

While introducing the party's female candidates, Yogendra Yadav raised some serious doubts over the way other parties are attempting to reduce women reservation in politics to a facade.

Yadav also claimed that at such times Swaraj India has introduced new-age politics. Swaraj India had ruled that applicants, whether male or female, will get tickets only on basis of their own work and not by merely being someone's relative. Swaraj India believes that there is no shortage of women leadership in society, and if anything is lagging, that is the right political opportunity which Swaraj India has been consistently trying to provide and the number of women candidates fielded by the party for MCD polls is clearly indicative of that.

For the upcoming MCD elections, Swaraj India has given tickes to 111 women with an average age of 37 years. It is worth noting that the women whom Swaraj India has given tickets are leaders in their own right and not merely someone's wife or daughter.

Swaraj India's Chief Spokesperson Anupam said that since day one, Swaraj India has been extremely serious towards increasing participation of women in political space of this country. Whether it be a campaign against liquor vends, fight for justice for auto-rickshaw drivers, or any other fight for justice for the people of Delhi, women have played an extremely important role in every campaign of Swaraj India. The MCD elections are an opportunity for us to make this thinking and culture a strong part of our politics.
