Australian batsmen played some good shots and their left-handed opener Warner's innings was the best as he smashed 72 runs. He shared his first wicket stand of 104 in 11 overs with Shane Watson (54). Watson and Warner batted very well and took the game away from India. Both took Australia to an imposing score in this crucial Super Eights game. Australia comfortably managed to make 184 runs in 20 overs.
India started their game badly, top order failed to face Aussie fast bowlers and Murali Vijay and Gautam Gambhir fell in one Dirk Nannes (3-25) over in identical fashion, caught at midwicket. India then slipped to 50-7 in the 11th over before Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 79. Indian batsmen tried big shots in a bid to keep up with the run-rate but unfortunately they failed.
Australia left-arm quick Dirk Nannes then consolidated his position as the tournament's leading bowler with three wickets for 25 runs to take his tally inhe competition to 10 wickets. Indian fast bowlers and spinner failed to control Australia well planned batting onslaught.
It was not Indian team's day. This defeat indicates that team has to post massive wins over Sri Lanka and West Indies to reach the semi-final.
