THE PRESIDENT, Indian Olympic Association Suresh Kalmadi must be asked, rather forced to resign immediately.  An accused in the Commonwealth Games scam after serving nine- months imprisonment in Tihar Jail, Kalmadi was released on bail on Friday.

 

An accused must not be allowed to hold the position and how can he be at the helm. Sports minister Ajay Maken is also of the strong opinion that Kalmadi must be pressurized to vacate his post so that a new president could be elected/ selected at the earliest.

 

At present, Mr Vijay Kumar Malhotra of BJP, the Vice President is holding the fort. It is really shocking that a tainted person who has just come out of jail on bail keeps on holding the highest office in the Indian Olympic Association.  How can a corrupted official continue, is not understood.

 

We are not sure whether the sports bill which was under fabrication has been approved by both the Houses till today or not. In case the bill is yet to be put up before the Houses, there must be a clause to terminate immediately such tainted officials against whom the corruption charges have been proved.

 

It is very interesting to know that Kalmadi has written a letter to the officiating President Vijay Kumar Malhotra to continue for some time since he desires to be away from the IOA functions; being unaware of the activities of the past few months.

 

Mr Kalmadi has no right to dictate terms to IOA Officiating President; he has to surrender the post at all costs before he is thrown out of the IOA association.
