Wearing American Army uniforms and armed with automatic weapons and grenades, Taliban fighters stormed a heavily fortified air base in Helmand province, damaging eight fighter jets on the ground.
THE TALIBAN attack on the air base is being described as the deadliest single strike on the US and NATO forces in last 11 years of Afghan war. Reportedly, Britain's Prince Harry is also stationed at this air base, though he remained unhurt.
The Taliban fighters, believed to be 15 in number, struck in the middle of the night by blasting boundary wall and ran towards parked jets planes and destroyed eight of them and set on fire three refueling stations.
Two American Marines have been killed and nine other wounded during the fight over the weekend. It is also being reported that Taliban attacked the Camp Bastion to capture Prince Harry.
Though anti-Islam movie is being cited as the reason behind the attack, but a Taliban spokesman confirmed that the motive of the assault was also to kill or take hostage the prince.
