Tamil Nadu man forces a 5-year old child to smoke beedi
Its been barely four months since a video surfaced which depicted a kid aged around one year consuming tobacco in the most professional manner. Tamil Nadu is yet again witnessing a video which shows an adult forcing a child to smoke beedi.

Tamilnadu People's Forum for Tobacco Control (TNPFTC) received the video in the early hours of 17 Nov 2015 through the tobacco control complaint receiving mobile application called "Tobacco Monitor". The video shows an Adult forcing a child to smoke beedi. Even when the Kid suffocates with the smoke of the tobacco product, the adult insists on taking another puff.

The adult puts the life of the child in danger. He mindlessly ignores the addictive nature of the tobacco products and the ill health effects caused by the tobacco product. Tamil and Kannada languages are spoken in the video and hence it is presumed that the video has been shot in the borders of Tamil Nadu.

TNPFTC is working at identifying the adult and the child. For the purpose of identifying the violator, the video has been in the "Tobacco Monitor" channel present in Youtube. The video clearly indicates how children are placed at a vulnerable situation when it comes into the habit of consuming tobacco.

Recent analysis of the complaints recorded through Tobacco Monitor Application reveal that "there is 100% non-compliance of prohibition of sale of tobacco products around 100 yards of the educational institutions" (Section 6b of COTPA 2003). The analysis revealed that apart from selling tobacco around the schools, multiple violations also takes place.

This includes sale of banned tobacco products such as Gutka, Pan Masala, advertisement of tobacco products, tobacco products placed prominently at the point of sale and so on. Apart from these violations, the Tobacco Industry adopt many strategies around schools to attract children into the consumption of tobacco. TNPFTC is a network comprising of individuals, professional associations, like minded organizations and institutions who are actively working towards tobacco control.
