TATA has decided to roll out 60, 000 Nanos by July 2010. When the new plant at Sanand becomes fully operational by the end of this current financial year 2009-10, it would produce 2.5 lakh cars per year. The common man's dream car is finally here.
CONSIDERING THE overwhelming demand for the Nano across the country, the country’s leader in the auto segment, Tata, has formulated a comprehensive strategy to roll out 60,000 Nanos by July 2010. The car which has been well received across the country and often termed the dream car of the common man, has attracted the attention of people from all walks of life, particularly those from common backgrounds. It is being celebrated as the world's cheapest car.
Production of the Nano, which is the brainchild of Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata, is way behind schedule as it was forced to move out of Singur owing to violent strikes and agitation by locals. The matter soon became a political issue and the Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee spearheaded the agitation. Ratan Tata has touched on this aspect in the company's annual report. According to him, when the project was relocated to Sanand in Gujarat from Singur, it was already 90 per cent complete and its relocation had an impact on various elements relating to production, delivery and the final launch of the Nano.
According to Ratan Tata, the Nano is being produced from its Pantanagar plant which is geared to produce 50,000 units annually. In the annual report, he further added that the new plant at Sanand would be fully-operational by the end of the current financial year-2009-10. The plan would produce 2.5 lakh cars per year.
