TE3N review: Gripping plot, Dasgupta's treatment and Amitabh's act makes it a treat to watch!
TE3N, a suspense thriller which is an Indian adaptation of South Korean film 'Montage', has hit the theaters today. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Vidya Balan in pivotal roles, the film has been co-produced by Sujoy Ghosh.

The directorial venture of Ribhu Dasgupta, TE3N is all about a grief-stricken grandfather in the crumbling city of Kolkata. His eight-year-old granddaughter gets kidnapped but the police are clueless on what appears to be an ordinary crime, which later turns out to be a well-planned abduction.

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vidya Balan

Director: Ribhu Dasgupta

Genre: Thriller/Drama/Suspense

Duration: 2 hours 17 minutes

IMDb Rating: 8.5/10

Well, let me warn you, while watching TE3N, you can not afford to miss even a single scene and a blink of eye can prove bothersome. The film revolves around John Biswas (Amitabh Bachchan), an old man whose 8-year-old granddaughter Angela was kidnapped and murdered in 2007. What follows is Biswas's relentless efforts to chase the criminals with the help of the police officer Martin Das (Siddiqui) who is handling his case.

Several attempts are put to trace the kidnappers but all in vein. However, Biswas is resolute enough to not let Das give up. Years pass on without any hint of the kidnappers, but, efforts of Biswas never cease and he continues his fight for justice. Angela's death also leaves an intense impact on Das. In dealing with his his trauma and to escape from the sense of guilt, he quits the force and becomes a priest.

The story takes another turn eight years later when in 2015, Biswas stumbles upon a hint about the location of the kidnapper. However, Das suggests him to heal and not scratch his old wound. But then, Biswas is desperate!

In the meantime, comes another and what can be said to be the most crucial twist in the film. Another kidnapping takes place that has huge similarities with Angela's case. This time, Das's old friend, officer Sarita Sharma (Vidya Balan), asks his help in the probe due to the similarity with the case he had handled earlier.

The locations of the City of Joy play a central role in bringing more effectiveness to the film along with the pace that the director has maintained through out the film. Unlike other thrillers, there are no car chase or gunfight sequences anywhere in the film. In fact, a fine treatment is designed to connect viewers with Biswas' trouble, and to make them realize why the protagonists takes so many risks to reach the culprits. And the minute, the moment of victory comes, it is hard for the audience to not relate with his pain and sense of helplessness.

TE3N is nervy, absorbing and dark. All the actors have done fabulous jobs with Nawazuddin bringing the flavor and Amitabh being the adhesive force behind the suspense thriller. The director has executed every bit of the film finely with his biggest success being the profound audience engagement.

TE3N will indeed keep you engrossed till the end and Amitabh's ace performance is a delicacy to watch. The film has enough to be your weekend treat.
