Team India - Test cricket remains crucial!
Well, with just one win in the last ODI, the mood of millions of fans in this cricket mad country swung into a celebration mode. It is a well known fact that owing to its very strong batting line stretching up to number seven, Team India has got a distinct advantage of piling up a huge score on almost any kind of turf in the ODI format.

Additionally, with the batting potential of the bowlers like R Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, our batting strength has further improved. Also, since the last few years, our boys have attained a tremendous development as far as chasing runs is concerned.

The exposure which our Indian bowlers receive through the IPL is proving very fruitful. But the greatest advantage is the know-how of the technique being used by the foreigner batsmen, which proves handy for our bowlers as they come to know how the guests tend to negotiate their bowling. They get to know their weakness and improvise accordingly.

Also, a majority of the Indian fans feel that in the ODI format, the self esteem, the confidence and the instinct to put in all out efforts by the whole team as one single unit are clearly visible. Perhaps, our supremacy - especially after lifting the last world cup - has already been established globally and this vital fact certainly boosts the morale of our boys. Another reason for getting expertise in the shorter version of the game is that except for the Ranji Trophy, our players normally indulge in playing only ODIs.

The reason for this preference is that it becomes a matter of just 50 overs. The bowlers are supposed to bowl just 8 to 10 overs and even if they do not get wickets, they can still remain in the game by just containing the run rates.

Likewise, in ODIs, the batsmen have also got an advantage of skipping the deadlier bowlers by just taking a single and allow their counterpart to face the bowler!

Sometimes, both the batsmen tend to avoid hitting a skillful bowler and wait to strike till a comparatively weaker bowler is put to work. Off late, the Indian ODI team has learnt to take full advantage of the situation and shown meticulous confidence, resulting in attaining a number of prestigious victories - Champions Trophy included.

Indian bowlers simply do not have the patience and the skill required for test cricket. Fitness is also a crucial factor. Since test matches really depend on bowlers, India struggles in this format. Our bowlers do not have enough speed and swing to trouble the overseas batsmen as well.

BCCI has never planned for test cricket, and they hardly have any program to develop trustworthy test bowlers. Unless test cricket is really focused upon, the state of affairs can never improve. Till appropriate steps are taken, test number one rank is a far off dream. Hope the administrators will give a serious consideration.
