Tejadashmi celebrated in Jaipur
The festival of Tejadashmi was celebrated with religious fervour with devotees thronging the temples of Rajasthani folk deity Veer Tejaji in Jaipur on September 25 this year.

TEJAJI TEMPLES in various localities of Jaipur like Gangapole, Amer, Vaishali Nagar, Mansarovar, Jaisinghpura, Uniyaron-Ka-Rasta, etc., were decorated and special programmes of devotional singing were held. In rural Jaipur, the festival of Tejadashmi is most popular as community festival, with Chattri (colourful umbrella) processions and cattle fairs as main attractions.

Veer Tejaji (1074-1103), a Jat folk-deity known for his valour and justice, lived in the state of Rajasthan. His father was Chaudhary Tahar, a chieftain of Khirnal in Nagaur district. His mother Sugna is believed to have got son Tejaji by the blessings of Naga-deity.

A large fair, 'Mela Tejaji', is held every year in village Parbatsar, district Nagaur in Rajasthan on Tejadashami. Veer Tejaji Cattle Fair at Parbatsar near Makrana is also organized every year. Tejaji fairs at places like Beawar, Kishangarh, Sursura, Bundi, Rampura, Ajmer and Kharnal in Rajasthan are held on this date. Sursura fair is a popular fair and people come from across India to attend it.

A fair of Tejaji is also organized at village Bhamawad of Guna district in Madhya Pradesh on this date. Also, Malwa has large number of followers of Tejaji and fairs are held in large number of villages there on this date.

Last year, India Postal Department released a special commemorative stamp Veer Tejaji at Kharnal in Nagaur Distt of Rajasthan on Tejadashami. Union Minister Sachin Pilot released the stamp in a function in presence of thousands of people.
