Telangana statehood: People of Andhra Pradesh taken for a ride
Within the congress party there no consensus on this vexed issue since many years, why the congress has taken the risk of raking up the issue in 2004 local elections, srikrishna committee drama and other assurances given, when they cannot or want to solve

THE MAIN issue is the status of Hyderabad, especially for the centre. Now it is clear that the centre or the congress is no mood to resolve the Telangana issue in the near future. The announcement that the result of an all-party meeting will be announced in November after consulting UPA allies is mere eyewash.

The elected representatives of the Telangana region have not read properly the mind of the central leadership on this issue. The employees and others who have been instigated to join the stir have been fooled. By paralyzing the administration the political issue could not be solved. To a certain extent there would have been some effect had a political crisis been arisen. Here, it lacked the proper strategy among them, and there was demand of resignations, but was not pursued effectively. This is also one of the reasons to delay or indefinitely postpone the issue.

After getting no assurance from the core committee, the elected representatives of the congress have clearly stated that resignations will not solve the issue. A feeler was aired that a merger of Kurnool and Anantapur with Telangana or merger of TRS with the Congress for effectively pressing the issue might work. But this turned out to be a big blunder and went futile.

The leaders who are spear heading the statehood issue keeping aside their party or their party ideals, and should have joined together if they are sincere in achieving the goal. As there was no give and take policy among them, it led to the present crisis of distress and disappointment. Having failed to take risk of boycotting the bye-elections or submitting the resignations after the delay tactics adopted by the centre have jeopardized their cause as well as lost faith of the people in them.

The YSR Congress and dissidence within the party has come to such a stage that the high command is feeling it pinch pinch and fears losing of its base in several parts of the state. Lack of strong and effective leadership in Andhra Pradesh has widened the rift between leaders of all parts of this state. The incapability of the state government in controlling the stir, which slowly drifted towards a law and order problem, has forced the central leadership to think of President Rule. Further, there's doubt that there will be horse trading on  part of the congress to neutralize the issue till the next elections.

In this political game people are being made fools, and they are the sufferers for the leaders’ misdeeds. One hopes that the centre and leaders of political parties will create an enabling atmosphere, which will be celebrated by people of all regions in Andhra Pradesh to celebrate Deepavali happily.
