Telangana Stir: Will the electricity consumers have to pay more?
APCPDCL officials have appealed to the consumer to pay the amount as per the last bill raised. Amount paid will be adjusted in fresh bill is raised after stir called off. Their version lacks clarity.
THE MOVE by parents to exempt educational institutes and resumption of transport services from the ongoing Telangana strike has caught the attention of the people. However, the adamant teachers union is in no mood to withdraw from the stir thus jeopardising the future of the students.

The ongoing strike has also taken their focus off from the surging electricity bills as when the final bill will be presented, they will end up paying more. Here is an example:

My electricity consumption was 204 units as per the last bill paid. Generally, readings are taken on or before 6th or 7th of every month in our area. On this date reading has not been taken or bill raised by the APCPDCL. As on today as per the meter reading my consumption is 244 units. My consumption will definitely cross 300 units by the time stir ends and bill will rise. For no fault of mine, I will be forced shell couple of more currency notes as per the slab rates.

Apart from this, the government will definitely pass on the burden of power procurement price on the consumers as indicated by the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy recently. Extra cost plus the surcharge whatever may be percentage, will definitely burn a hole in the common man’s pockets. The apartment associations, commercial and other establishments will have to bear the burden in higher percentage.

APCPDCL officials had appealed to the consumers to pay through E Seva counters the amount as per the last bill raised. After resumption of their duties as per the latest readings the amount paid will be adjusted. There is no clarity in their version how they are going to adjust the amount paid as per the slab system.

Our earnest appeal to the government is that, it should immediately make an alternate arrangement so that, bills are raised and avoid burdening the consumers. The civil society organisations like resident welfare association and others should take immediate initiative in this regard and appeal to the government and APCPDCL not to penalise the consumers of electricity etc for no fault of them.
