Telangana's brand ambassador Sania Mirza: Controversy erupts after BJP leader calls her Pakistan's 'daughter-in-law'
What benefit a state gets by appointing some celebrity or sports person as brand ambassador. If it's a step toward honoring a successful person, no issues in it. India's newest state Telangana has decided to appoint Indian tennis star Sania Mirza who belongs to Hyderabad as its brand ambassador.

Prima facie it looks as step by the government to honor here for various achievements. However, a statement by a BJP leader K. Laxman that since Sania has married a Pakistani cricket player, so she should not be made state's brand ambassador created controversy. He termed Sania Mirza as 'daughter-in-law' of Pakistan.

Terming her as Pakistan's daughter-in-law doesn't look appropriate. Sania even after marriage remained an Indian citizen and without any doubt the India is proud of her and none should be interfering in her private affairs.

The BJP leader Laxman further said that Sania Mirza had born in Maharashtra and settled in Hyderabad and hence a non-local. Thus she shouldn't be appointed as brand ambassador. But What would be Mr. Laxman's opinion about his party's veteran leader LK Advani, who was born in Pakistan?

Sania Mirza is the only Indian women tennis player who had achieved career high ranking of 27 in singles and 5 in doubles. This is a great achievement and motivates many Indian sports women! You can't just insult a successful Indian because she married to a Pakistani or born somewhere else than Telangana!

Mr. Laxman further accuses that Sania Mirza's appointment is for political interest considering the upcoming Hyderabad Municipal elections where minority communities are the key voters. I don't think Sania Mirza has any political effect at all. Also Sania Mirza would never like to be part of any political campaign particularly in local body elections. Looks what the state BJP leader has done is contrary to Narendra Modi's vision.

Narendra Modi in his speeches had said that good governance is his (and his party's) religion and Constitution is the only holy book! Shouldn't Amit Shah the new BJP chief look in to Laxman's tone and language?
