As per the state's Chief Electoral Officer, a total number of 68000 security personnels have been deployed apart from 15000 polling personnels to maintain law and order in the ongoing election process.
THE TELENGANA by-polls started on a light note today amidst tight security for the by-elections to 12 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh's Telangana region. Officers in the chief electoral board recorded a polling of 10 percent in the first half an hour. The polling began at scheduled at 7 AM across 2783 polling stations in the constituencies spread across five districts.
Ballot papers were used in five contituencies where the number of candidates exceeded 64 while in the remaining seven segments Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used.
About 23.60 lakh voters, nearly half of them women, are eligible to cast their votes in the by-elections. Because of the resignation of all 10 legislators of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and one each of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on the issue of separate Telangana state which happened early this year.
