Television more popular than films: Lata Mangeshkar
Every year Lata Mangeshkar has launched a personal calender and sticking to the ceremony this time too she launched the same. This time, however, the theme of her calender is based around yesteryears' actresses, and their black and white photographs.
COMMENTING AND comparing the present time and the time gone by, Lata Mangeshkar gave her observations about the film industry. Speaking at the occasion, the nightingale felt that a lot has changed in the last 70 years of cinema. She feels that today, more than films, television serials are popular among people. She further added, “I am watching the film industry since 1942 as I started working in the same year. These days, films have less music and more dance, and girls wear less clothes.”
Talking to nnis, she also mentioned the names of two serials, 'Bade ache lagte hai' and 'Mahadev,' which are really popular among the people. The calender features actresses such as Suraiya, Waheda Rehman, Nargis, Rekha,
Jaya Bachchan amd Mumtaz, to name a few.
Talking about the gone by era of melodies and black and white films, she says that in those days playback singers and actors rarely used to meet. If she has to choose her favorite actress,from that time, it would surely be Nargis and
Meena Kumari.
