Temple idols vandalised in Hyderabad
Increasing attacks on small Hindu temples in and around the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in the past few years has become a cause of concern for the majority community. But the media underplayed these sacrileges.
IN OLD city Edi Bazar area, in Kummarawadi, Hyderabad, the Mahankali and Muthyalamma temples’ main deities were vandalised and smashed by some unknown persons on the night of November 6. This sacrilege has shocked the entire old city’s majority community. Enraged by this incident the locals gathered in large numbers along with local BJP leaders and protested against the vandalism.

As usual the panicky police reached the spot immediately and pacified the crowd. The DCP Atul Singh and other senior police officials controlled the situation from going out of hand. The agitators withdrew from the scene only after the DCP promised to install new idols in the temples and fencing the entire temple precincts. They also promised to post round-the-clock tight security guards in the premises.

The locals often wonder why such incidents have increased in the past few years and why the government is callously ignoring the repeated attacks on the majority community’s sentiments.

This is not the first such incident which occurred in the twin cities.

Last year, four such incidents occurred within a span of two months. Near Moulali Dargah, a similar vandalism occurred and local goddess’ idols were smashed by some unknown youths. As media underplayed these incidents, such repeated acts of vandalism have not come to the limelight.

.Is it not communal to report Hindus temple desecration and vandlising? We live in a secular India where only places of worship of minorities are media favorites. We teach our children the hindu temple vandalising acts of looters and plunderers of moghul period as very sensible, secular acts. If it were to be a hut with a large cross in it it that was vanadlised, it would have made international headlines and Pope would have intervened. The TV channels would have had 24 hours of breaking news capsules and lot of Hindu bashing would have been carried out by Teesta Setalwad, Javed Akhtar, Brinda Karat's of the secular brigade and asked for banning Hindu fundamentalist organizations.
