Tendulkar request for change in ODI format declined by ICC
Sachin Tendulkar, one of the most respected cricketers in the world, had written a letter to the ICC suggesting that the current format of 50 overs per side game should be divided into four innings of 25 overs each.

THE RECENT ODI matches that have been taking place around the world has seen a gradual decrease in the number of people who are coming to see the matches or watch it on television. People are losing interest in the ODI format of the game. Hence, there is a serious need for the concerned administrators to look into bringing back the ODI format into popular terms among fans across the globe. It is only in the Indian sub consistent that crowds throng the stadium. But other stadiums across the world are losing their audiences. Hence, Sachin Tendulkar realised the urgent need to bring in some fresh changes towards the game of cricket and wrote a letter to the ICC.

The ICC had received a letter from one of the living legends of the game, Sachin Tendulkar, who stated that it would be better if the ODI witnesses some change from its current format. He wanted the game, which is currently played as 50 overs per game, to be divided into four innings of 25 overs each. One question arises from his suggestion, why would Scahin’s suggestion be heard by the ICC?

The ICC rejected Sachin’s suggestion, irrespective of the status that the player has in the game. The ICC has shown here that no player is bigger than the game. The ICC must have taken this decision as they don’t feel the urgency to change the present format. But, with the advent of T20, it would be very wise for them to think upon the declining interest among the fans as far as ODI cricket is concerned. Many players and experts have been debating for some time now about it. Is Tendulkar concerned about the ever increasing popularity of the T20 all over the world?

It would have been wise if his suggestion would have been looked into, as he is one of the most experienced playing International cricket. He must have given some thought before giving his suggestions, which are always listened to owing to the name he has earned for himself in the game. The recent example that one can give where Sachin has played an important role is when Ian Bell was controversially dismissed by the Indian fielders, but it was Sachin who suggested the Indian captain, MS Dhoni  to take back his decision and allow Ian Bell to walk into bat. MS Dhoni did that, for which Dhoni was also awarded the ICC Spirit of the award. It was also under Sachin’s suggestion that the BCCI appointed MS Dhoni as the Captain of the Indian team, and the Indian team is the one benefitting from it. Tendulkar is always who does his work from the background but plays an important role in the process. Who knows, what would would have been the outcome had ICC accepted his suggestions? It could have been positive or negative but the ICC was afraid if it could have been negative.
