Tendulkar wins, India loses 5th ODI
Sachin's inning had all the characteristics of brilliance but if measured on the yardstick of genius, it falls. The master blaster played great shots, took the wind out Australian sails and at one point brought the match almost into Indian kitty.

FROM SUBLIME to brilliant that is how Sachin Tendulkar's inning against Australia in the 5th one-day match is being described by the Indian media and cricketers all around the world. No doubt Sachin Tendulkar won and India lost in the crucial one-day match between India and Australia in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Sachin's inning had all the characteristics of brilliance but if it is measured on the yardstick of genius, it falls. The master blaster did everything right, played great shots, took the wind out Australian sails and at one point brought the match almost into the Indian kitty. But with 19 runs needed in 18 balls, the master blaster proved he too was human and played a shot, which he will like to forget as soon as possible.

Tendulkar is one of the most experienced players in the side and and knows well the propensity of Indians in losing matches from winning positions. The Men in Blue many times flatter to deceive and thats what happened yesterday, when Indian snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

In a repeat of the past, Sachin Tendulkar after playing an invincible innings played an ordinary shot to lose his wicket and the match for India.

The loss of Tendulkar meant India had lost the plot and it was now left to Ponting to clean the Indian tail, which despite wagging too much in the last few matches failed to come good, when the team needed it most.

The Little Master played brilliantly, his straight drives, pulls, cuts and drives through the covers all sent the crowd into raptures and the audiences on television went ecstatic. But somewhere in the minds of Indian cricket fans there was aways a lurking fear that once this inning comes to a close, the great chase will also come to an end.

The bane of Indian team has been its failure to win the matches like this. An ordinary Indian fan, who adores Tendulkar fails to understand, why the Little Master takes India to the door of victory and then suddenly falls.

Why the cricketing god, who looks invincible throughout the match against the best of bowling attacks, throws his wicket to petty shots and brings sorrow to his team and his worshippers. Tendulkar had almost won the match yesterday, till he decided to play a shot which he will consider to be one of the worst he has ever played in one-day cricket.

With 19 runs to get in 18 balls and 4 wickets in hand, there was no need for him to play a spectacular shot on the way to victory. Had Tendulkar won this match for India, this would not only have been his greatest inning only, but one of the greatest chases in the history of one-day cricket.

Despite Virender Sehwag, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Ghambir failing to make any contribution to the match, it is still pertinent to say that yesterday was Tendulkar's day and the Little Master could have carried home the match.

No doubt he put on display an enthralling inning and due credit to him for that but the onus of this loss is also fairly and squarely on him.  The post match analysis by various media once again proves that instead of winning matches and concentrating on team work, the focus is mostly on individual briiliance.

It has to be rememered that the team is above the individual, whosoever he may, even if he is a genius like Tendulkar.
