Mirwaiz Farooq has been detained at his house in Nigeen along with Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yaseen Malik. However, there has been no restriction on the movement of people across Srinagar, although security forces have been deployed in strength to prevent any untoward incident.
Most of the markets and shopping establishments remained closed after a bandh call was given to protest against the death of youth in Sopore in police firing. The government has also declared that schools and colleges in Kashmir valley shall remain closed for two days.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government has called the CRPF action unwarranted and said that the force was lacking command, while reacting to the killing of another CRPF youth in police firing on Sunday, the third since Friday.
In an unprecedented move, the state government had to call a press conference and urge the union government to rein in the CRPF, which it alleged was running amock in the state
