Terrorist attack in Gurdaspur and terror apologists
The latest terror strike in Gurdaspur has happened nearly after eight years of any terrorist attack in Punjab, and nearly after two decades of a terrorist attack of such a scale. Although there are fatalities including one Punjab Police Superintendent, but the good thing is that the damage was not as huge as the terrorists had planned. 5 live bombs were detected by the railway's patrolling team and thus a very big causality was avoided. The identity of the particular terror agency involved has not yet been ascertained, but it is for sure that they came from across the border.

Some are of the opinion that the Khalistan movement is being revived, and some say that originally these terrorists wanted to infiltrate through Kathua, to attack Jammu, but lost their way and ended up in Gurdaspur. However the concern is great, as terror appears to be spilling over from J&K to Punjab.

This terror attack was executed amid a controversy over a mercy petition to the President of India by eminent (?) people of India that include celebrities, MPs, CMs, Politicians and others. I really fail to understand, why these so called eminent people are merciful to a terror convict? Yakub Memon, guilty or not is to be judged by the SC.

SC has given its verdict and the President has already rejected the mercy petition, then why these people have suddenly woken up to save Yakub? Is Yakub a freedom fighter? Have these terror apologists ever realized the woes and sufferings of the Mumbai blast victims? Did any of their relatives suffer in the Mumbai blasts?

There are some, who are totally against capital punishment. In a democracy, they have their right to difference of opinion. But where were they, when Kasab was hanged? Yes, the way Kasab and Afzal Guru were hanged is very wrong. In the case of Afzal Guru, his family should have been informed before hanging him.

Afzal might have been a terrorist, but his family members are Indians and they have their rights as Indian citizens. The anti-capital punishment lobby always cites, that two-thirds of global nations have abolished capital punishment. However, they always selectively omit the fact, that nations having more than two thirds of the global population are still sticking with capital punishment.

But do these Yakub apologists belong to an anti-capital punishment lobby? The list includes Congress members, Left members and one BJP dissident (Shatrughna Sinha). Congress hanged the most convicts, while in power. Shatrughna Sinha is in the BJP, which supports capital punishment.

Thus, these apologists do not come from a social organization which fights for the abolishment of capital punishment, rather a group that's against Narendra Modi, pleading mercy for Yakub, as if Narendra Modi is hanging him out of vendetta. If India is vulnerable to terror attacks, then it's because of such terror apologists.

In the process, they are also insulting the law abiding and patriotic Muslims (who form more than 90% of the entire community), as a terrorist's cause is getting preference from these so called eminent people, rather than the real woes of common Indian Muslims.

I have never liked Asaduddin Owaisi. Many TV channels reported that he is adding religion to Yakub Memon's hanging. Yes, he is mixing terror with religion. But he is not the first one to do so.

Unfortunately of late, religion and regionalism has been used as a terror apology policy. Be it Rajiv Gandhi's murder or Bhuller's case, it's just communal politics, that puts a deep shadow on the system of natural justice, relating to terror. You can't have two sets of rules for the same terror.

Thus, I don't blame Owaisi for his comments. But I am really very critical of these so called eminent people. There were apprehensions, that these eminent people may also tweet to the President, alleging Police excess in the Gurdaspur terror attack!
