Tesla Motors Inc. will stop its production of its sleek electric sports car, the Roadster, which was unveiled in 2006.The company said that it will release the new version of Roadster in the year 2013. In its filing for an initial public offering on Friday, the company said that they do not plan to sell their current generation the Tesla Roadster after 2011 due to planned tooling changes at a supplier for the Tesla Roadster.
The Tesla Roadster was built at a Lotus plant in Hethel, England. The company said that it has sold 937 of its Roadster priced at $109,000 which can reach from 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds. It can travel 236 miles on a single charge. The stop in the Roadster production means there would be a gap between halt and when the company gets its Model S electric sedan on the road. On this, the company said, “As a result, we anticipate that we may generate limited, if any, revenue from selling electric vehicles after 2011 until the launch of the planned model S.”
