The '3 Idiots' fame Leh school to revamp maths and science education
The Druk White Lotus School (DWLS), located in Leh-Ladakh, wherein the last part of Aamir Khan starer film '3 Idiots' was shot, is going to revamp its math and science instruction at the high school level, revealed Meera Bajaj, who is associated with management of the school, during a meeting with this citizen journalist in New Delhi.
According to Meera Bajaj, the school was started at the request of the people of Ladakh who wanted a school that would help maintain their rich cultural traditions, based on Tibetan Buddhism, while equipping their children for a life in the 21st century. The DWLS is managed by the Druk Pema Karpo Educational Society and financed with money raised internationally.
The school, which has also featured in a serial on building designs and Cisco Systems "Human Network" shoot besides Aamir Khan's movie 3 Idiots, is in the process of improving its infrastructure and landscaping along with improving the quality of classroom instruction.
In order to build the capacity of the teachers, the school management has been inviting the best of teacher trainers for school-based trainings. From April this year, when the school reopens after long winter vacation, the concept attainment model of learning math and science will be introduced and stabilized for classroom instruction.
In order to make the new model of math and science instruction, the training of teachers and its transfer to classroom situation has been planned systematically, informed the school management.
It is said that the intervention will pass through training; try-out with a support system; recurrent review and planning workshops for learning material development and internalization of the new approach with supervised practice.
