The ABC of citizen journalism
Many news portals and channels are encouraging citizen journalism to elicit voices of common people, audience and readers. However, some citizens who have a flavour writing take to a sytematic process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information in which readers and audiences also participate by expressing their views and comments.

It is believed that citizens only can provide accurate, wide-ranging and relevant information that a democratic country requires. Such citizen reporters or an ordinary person can capture local news and pulse of fellow citizens and distribute it globally to make some relevant impact.

At times, citizen journalism , is also known as civic, public, participatory  or democratic journalism. According to Shayne Bowman and Chris Willis, the intent of such participation is to provide independent, reliable, accurate, wide-ranging and relevant information that a democracy requires since it is the user generated content.

Another noted journalist, Mark Glasser observes that the main idea behind citizen journalism is that people without professional journalism training can use the tools of modern technology for the global distribution of the Internet and news portals to create, augment or fact-check media on their own or in collaboration with others.

Citizen journalism can have many shades of reader or audience participation, open publishing and collaborative editing.  Thanks to new technology that the citizen journalist movement is becoming widespread and a comon person can write about local news and contextual issues to distribute his or her views and  thoughts globally.
