The Agra Half Marathon - 2018 culminates with a bang
The historic city of Agra witnessed the confluence of marathon aficionados on Sunday, December 23 from a wide spectrum of social strata. More than 2500 runners from across the nation decoded their physical and mental competency, encountering the frightening Agra winter.

Sports spirit at its best

Under the unwavering spirit of athletes, chilling winter was a mere spectator. Smile exuding from the perspiring faces of runners said it all. The joy of running inspired many school students to test their long distance running endurance.

Pledge

Jagbir Singh, Pride of India, Former Hockey Captain, Arjuna Awardee Olympian graced the runners' carnival as a Chief Guest.  Entire ambiance at the stadia was a treat to watch.

Seasoned marathon runners from different parts were invited as ambassadors, including Ruchika, Avtar, Kaushal, Gautamendu, Surendra and Jyoti. Scores of people were seen on the streets of Agra, cheering for the runners. Hundreds were first timers.

K.K. Singh, a teacher by profession with Army School, was seen celebrating the joy of completing the half marathon at the finish line. The carnival began on a high-note with the recitation of national anthem. Students took pledge to "Stop Violence Against Women".

Champions

Vinod Kumar was adjudged as the champion of the event, while Poonam, won in the female category.

Jagbir Singh bestowed awards to the winners. Minaxi Ghildiyal, a professor, sports women herself was one of the special invitees. Their presence inspired one and all.

"Things galore to learn from living legends like Jagbir. Earn respect from your achievements and stay humble, never ever demonstrate ego, I've learned this thing," said Harsh, one of the volunteers at the event.

Bhumiraj Singh, one of the organizers shared his vision behind the event, "I myself is from a small city, Mainpuri, I'm a long distance runner, won many championships, making efforts to promote marathon sports in and around Agra."

The AHM had three categories – 21K, 10K and 5K, the two formers were timed run, organized leveraging the high-end timing technology, while the third one, 5K was planned especially to nurture future marathon runners.

"Apart from promoting sports, through AHM, we are spreading a noble message, "Stop violence against women," said Manoj.

In a two tier city like Agra, I'm of the opinion, such events were overdue since long, AHM has set the ball rolling. As a marathon runner I, envisioned such events in Agra. Hats off to the entire Team AHM!
