The All-Party Delegation: Will it be successful in restoring peace in Kashmir?
On September 04, 2016, an all-party delegation led by Home Minister Rajnath Singh reached Kashmir Valley in a futile search for Kashmiriyat, Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat that have been irretrievably lost long time back.

This initiative has been taken after more than 54 days of unrest in the Valley, which commenced on 08 July after the killing of jehadi Burhan Wani and had led to death of 62 people including security persons and injuring almost 5000 pattharbaj (stone-pelter) civilians, 2000 Kashmir police persons and 1100 CRPF persons.

Needless to say, this is once again a patch work effort by Indian leaders both from J&K state and the Centre to buy time till the eruption of next round of unrest that keeps on happening in Kashmir Valley at regular intervals. Truth is that no politician either from the Centre or the state wants to address the real problem of the Valley that has nothing to do with Kashmiriyat.

Burhan Wani was a confirmed jehadi of Hijbul Mujahedeen, carrying a Rs 10 lakh reward on his head. His killing should have been a routine affair. But why did it result in this unrest, is the question which these politicians must ask themselves? Problem lies with separatist hard-line leader Sayed Ali Shah Geelani - a paid Pakistani stooge and the Hurriyat Conference. Both of them are getting sustenance from Pakistan and its intelligence agency ISI.

Both of them have been allowed to prosper in Kashmir Valley and pollute the minds of the youth with hard-line radical Islam imported from Pakistan while Indian politicians in New Delhi dealt with the regional Kashmiri politicians like Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and their likes. These Kashmiri netas have been feeding Central netas with this canard of Kashmiriyat, Jamhooriyat and Insaniyat which had long gone missing in Kashmir due to the free run granted to the likes of Geelani and Hurriyat.

Since Indian independence 70 years back whichever government came to power at the Centre, it gave much more money to the state of J&K then any other state of India. Unfortunately this money which should have been spent for the development of the state under direct supervision of the Centre was doled out to the state government neck deep in corruption. All this has resulted in hap hazard and lackadaisical development of the state fully exploited by likes of Geelani, Hurriyat and Pakistan.

Instead of Kahsmiriyat, the present currency in K Valley is Islamiyat. In the Valley, they are praising Pakistan based terror organisations Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hijbul Mujahedeen and also ISIS. The youth of the valley fly the flags of these organisations and shout slogans demanding rule of Nizam-e-Mustafa. Mosques in the Valley blare songs instigating people to do jehad and demand Aazadi. So which Kashmiriyat, Jamhooriyat and Insaniyat we are talking about?

A very senior and balanced PDP leader Mirza Afzal Beg has openly accepted the fact that the current agitation is religion based with ISIS overtones. The regional Kashmiri leaders like Omar Abdullah are further stirring the pot by giving statements that India wants Kashmir but not Kashmiris.

PDP leader Mr. Beg had recently appealed to hardliner Geelani that he should accept Mehbooba Mufti as his daughter and give her a chance to function. Is this Geelani all that important? Why he is allowed to do all that he wants to do in the Valley by creating trouble?

All the politicians both from Centre and the state are worried about the use of pellet guns by the police to control the crowd, but why none of these politicians are saying that if the local youth do not indulge in stone-pelting then where is the need for use of pellet guns and the search of alternatives?

The all party delegation may buy peace for some time by giving sops here and there but is unlikely to solve the problem. The problem will again erupt after some time and will keep or flashing up at different intervals.

Yes, it is true that Pakistan has a major role to play in instigation of this Aazadi problem of the Valley but let us be clear in our minds that the spark lies in Kashmir Valley only. The need of the hour is that the central government led by PM Modi must take bold political decisions. This bull must be caught by the horn and dealt with accordingly.

After 30 years, now India has a one party government at the Centre which has no compulsion to follow coalition Dharma. It needs to be understood that after the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits which forced 5 lakh pandits to leave their homes in the Valley, now Muslims number 99% there. Out of this 90 lakh Muslim population only 50 lakh Muslim population belonging to Sunni sect is creating this ruckus.

The four Valley districts adjoining the Pakistan border dominated by Bakkharwals are quiet. Similarly, the Shia Muslim dominated areas of Kargil and Drass are also quiet. The problem in centered in and around Srinagar and south Kashmir. Following suggested actions if taken now will alleviate this problem in a big way.

  • The basic reason of this separatism is Article 370, which gives the state of J&K a special status by not allowing anybody from the rest of India either to take up job in J&K or to settle down there. So, why should any other state of India open their job market to the Kashmiris if it is not being reciprocated? In any case why should Hindu Jammu and Budhist Ladakh suffer because of the shenanigans of separatists in Kashmir Valley. Remove Article 370 from Jammu and Ladakh; let it continue in Kashmir Valley if they want.

  • Remove Geelani and Hurriyat leaders from the Valley, charge them with anti-national act and put them permanently behind bars outside the Valley. The Valley is already in turmoil so what more trouble can be caused by this action.

  • Despite all efforts by Pakistan to draw world attention to the current turmoil in Kashmir no country has stood for Pakistan. Whole world now knows that the country, which is the trigger in the Valley is Pakistan, so why should India now worry about world opinion if they take strong action against the perpetuator of all this trouble in Kashmir Valley?

  • It is important that this all party delegation by its action and talks makes it abundantly clear to the leaders of stone-pelters in the Valley that Aazadi is just not possible come what may. They must emphasise that Kashmir is part of India and will always remain so. All this talk of autonomy and more autonomy must be buried once for all.

  • If Pakistan can cede from POK 5000 sq kms of Shaksgam Valley to China, allows China to build their China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in POK, then what stops India from dividing J&K state to three autonomous regions namely Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir Valley with their own people to govern them?
