Slowly but steadily our nation is heading for a criminal-infested crisis as very high inflation, unemployment and corruption have weakened the value systems of our age-old social fabric, which surprisingly had kept crime in our nation at low levels.
You can also describe it as a criminal revolution of sorts and this would be sparked by the first economic and food riots, which would take place in our nation in the coming near future. These would be comparable to the 2010 French riots, the London 2012 lootings and of course the Brazilian uprising in 2006 & 10.
India has seen the first trailer of its kind in the East Delhi Violence or riots in 2012, and sadly I believe these to slowly evolve and increase on a more all-India level than today. It was the worst outbreak of violence which has been recorded in our history and was mainly directed against security forces and some civilian targets. It is an anger that's present in 70% of our social structure in India.
The criminal infestation would be unique to both Indian topography, class, creed, culture and most importantly our social fabric. Social problems will only lead to the formation of this new crime culture in New Delhi. The beginning or its birth can be seen with escalating chain snatching incidents. Other criminal activities have also increased manifold on an all India level comprising mostly first timers who are the aspiring poor youth trying to enjoy the hi-fi lifestyles of the rich or rather be part of the normal society which should exist for all Indians like their western counterparts. Mostly crimes involving money or bullion will increase vis-à-vis other crimes such as murder, rapes, etc., which would be more opportunistic in nature or a fall out of cash oriented crimes. Car Jackings, Bank – ATM holdups, drugs, guns, robberies, cybercrime, dacoities and lootings will increase manifold.
The first major infestation would be the formation of the police mafia. This would involve a more complex network of police, politician and corporation nexus. This nexus already exists today but is not well organized or entrenched in our society due to its main involvement with white collar crime - mainly corrupt activities. This mafia would provide organized infrastructure, backup and security to the criminal members which otherwise they would lack in a small group. Street gangs will come up with affiliations to the big mafias and our society would no more be safe from then onwards. The major criminal dens would be the unauthorized colonies or suburbs where they would be hard to be traced and also would supply a steady stream of members. Crime would slowly become a major employment hub for many of our nations poorer sections.
This above nexus is stated to evolve further as our society is on the brink of a revolution by the have-nots majority of whom are the frustrated and angry unemployed youth. The huge inflation and other costs is forcing our youth to take to crime in a major way as said above about ever-increasing list of first time criminals. The first perpetuators would be the poor youth who lack quality leadership values and are mostly uneducated. This group will be the first to be exploited by the Police Mafia in increasing their sphere of criminal activities. Obviously these Police mafias will enjoy political patronage as well due to well known reasons. Surprisingly, the IPS would be least involved in it as it would encompass only the lower order of cops who feel affinity to this band of have-nots. Hence, the local police station might become criminal head quarters during night time of course this is a little too farfetched to imagine but its possibility cannot be ruled out.
Slowly as Gangs would evolve to national level crime syndicates much like corporate it would involve victimization of police, security officials and politicians as well. Gun culture would become the norm of our society like in Etah and Chambal districts where the gun only delivers justice. That day it would be difficult to control crime in India ever again. The Naxal movement is a similar fall out of our nation’s poor governance but is more political than criminal in nature.
All the above can be stopped if both positive and timely steps are be taken by our government. I hope our nation increases its governance quality wise, remove corruption and concentrate in guiding the youth on positive paths of livelihood. The government should devise its policies in such a way that development and prosperity reaches equally to all spheres of our society. Low inflation, social security, housing and health for all should be the number one priority of our nation. God be with us and save the nation in case the government fails in control our society's criminal degradation.
