The day to stretch longer by one second, it is the 'leap-second day' today
Today, at mid-night, a second will be added to the clocks all over the world. Thus, in the last hour, the day will read 11:59:60 instead of the usual 11:59:59.

THE LEAD second is added periodically to synchronize the official atomic clocks, and this task is coordinated by Earth Orientation Service in Paris.

Today, it is said to be first leap second since January 2009 and the 25th overall, ever since the practice was initiated. The next leap second will be added to the clocks on June 30, 2016.

According to Wikipedia, a leap second is an one-second adjustment that is occasionally applied to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in order to keep its time of day close to the mean solar time.

This adjustment is required since the UTC time standard, which is widely used for international timekeeping and as the reference for civil time in most countries, uses the international system (SI) definition of the second, based on atomic clocks, adds Wikipedia.
