The main accused Kalita in the Guwahati molestation case arrested

After more than two weeks, the prime accused in the Guwahati molestation case, Amar Jyoti Kalita was reportedly arrested in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested by a local police from Lanka area of Varanasi.

ACCORDING TO the local police, the man arrested was Kalita but he was giving vague answers when questions were put to him. Now, the police from Assam is traveling to Varanasi to identify him.

Earlier today, the Guwahati police said that Kalita was spotted near Kolkata, they also said that the photo of Kalita will be flashed on local channels, and offered a reward for information, which would help to locate him.

Kalita was on the run after a TV channel aired a video of molestation. The video was also uploaded on YouTube, and it went viral - triggering nationwide outrage. With this arrest, fourteen of the seventeen identified in the Guwahati molestation case of a minor, have been taken into custody.

One of the police constable arrested him as he was looking as a suspect. He said he is from Guwahati and he accepted that he is Amar Jyoti Kalita, the prime accused in Guwahati molestation case, said BD Paulson, SSP, Varanasi, in a video interview with network1media. He also said that they have demanded the video clips and images from Guwahati police, and now a special team is interrogating Kalita.
