The most awaited films of 2017
The year 2016 ended with a bang as Dangal emerged as one of the highest grossers of the year. The film virtually ended the drought in Bollywood, which had been reeling under the clout of demonetisation since November 8.

The year 2016 was exemplary of the coming of age of Bollywood with hard hitting films like Udta Punjab and Neerja doing decent business. But now that 2016 has entered the pages of history, we should look ahead and find out about some of the most anticipated movies of 2017.

1. Jagga Jasoos

After loads of controversies, finally Jagga Jasoos will hit the theatres in 2017. The movie has been in the news ever since the lead pair of the film Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif broke up. Disney, the film's producer has announced that Jagga Jasoos will release on April 7, 2017. The trailer of the film that was released a few days ago has received rave reviews for its breath taking cinematography. While many have pointed out similarities between the film and Barfi, as both have been directed by Anurag Basu, one could not help but notice Ranbir's weird haircut. His hairstyle has been lifted straight from actor Jim Carrey's character in Hollywood classic `Ace Ventura'. A few scenes of the film also seem like rehashes of another Hollywood classic Indiana Jones. Jagga Jasoos is the story of a young detective who embarks upon an adventure to search for his missing father.

2. Baahubali: The Conclusion

I'm sure everyone will agree that there isn't a more intriguing question in Bollywood today than: "why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?" The whole country has been waiting agonisingly in anticipation for the answer to this question. And to add to their woes, the wait kept getting longer with the release date being pushed from 20016 to 2017. But the wait will soon be over as Baahubali opens in theatres worldwide on April 28, 2017. The film's director SS Rajamouli has revealed that the second installment of his magnum opus would be "more emotional and with more grandeur." Baahulai easily qualifies as the most awaited film of the year.

3. Raees

Raees marks the re-entry of King Khan in a negative role after a long gap of 5 years. He had last portrayed a negative character in the 2011 film Don 2. Shah Rukh Khan is indeed one of the most bankable stars of Bollywood today and his films tend to generate a lot of hype. Despite a delay in release of the film, the teaser trailer released in 2015 did manage to keep interest in the film alive. The movie's song `Laila O Laila' featuring Sunny Leone has already become a chartbuster. Raees also came under the clout of controversy due to a boycott called by Shiv Sena on all movies starring Pakistani actors after the attack on an Army camp at Uri in J&K. Raees, which is Shah Rukh's home production also stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khan in the female lead role. However, she has been barred from promoting the film in India. Raees will see light of the day on January 25, 2017.

4. Kaabil

Hrithik Roshan has been probably going through the worst phase of his career. His personal life was severely jolted by his split with wife Sussanne Khan in 2014 after a long marriage that lasted 17 years. A recent public feud that the light-eyed actor had with actress Kangana Ranaut didn't help matters either. Kaabil is being touted as Hrithik's comeback film. The recently released second trailer of Kaabil has received a positive response. Despite Kaabil being a revenge drama, a subject which generally opens well, the film is headed for a major clash with Raees at the box office, as the Sanjay Gupta directorial also releases on January 25, 2017. With a much lower budget in comparison to Raees, Kaabil has a much better chance of success.

5. Jolly LLB 2

In Jolly LLB 2, Akshay Kumar is back at doing what he does best, trying his hand at comedy. Over the past few years, Akshay has proved that he has a good comic timing. His comedy roles in films like Hera Pheri have been well appreciated and garnered applauses. However, this time Akshay's comedy has a serious message. The sequel to the 2013 film Jolly LLB, Jolly LLB 2 is a courtroom drama filled with laughter. While Akshay has replaced Arshad Warsi as the original Jolly in the sequel, the bad guy Boman Irani has been replaced by Annu Kapoor in the sequel Jolly LLB 2. The film is scheduled for release on February 10, 2017.
