Indian politics and its politicians are unique in their own sense. Our politicians are very quick in making tall promises but hardly fulfill those. But this reason alone cannot urge people to condemn political leaders, as exceptions are always there
POLITICS, POLITICS and politics is what you hear and see all most everyday of your life. Politics is a complex phenomenon for anyone to think of it or describe it in straight lines. Politicians are not what they seem and they seem what they are not. Pandit Nehru being a politician was also a good spokesman, man of letters, writer and thinker. But he was frank enough to concede that politicians usually hide their reasons and talk pompously of religion, justice, truth and the like. And still great majority of people are taken in by the soft talks of the politicians.
Loyalty, sincerity and honesty are as far as removed from him as the earth is from the sky. Cartoonist generally present pot-bellied, Khadi clad people as typical Indian politician. Khaddar or Khadi of course has nothing to do with the real Indian politics. Mahatma Gandhi insisted on the Khaddar or Khadi as symbol of purity and sacrifice. Every politician in the country is not habitual wearer of the Khaddar or Khadi. There are only a few handful Gandhians such as Morarji Desai, who spin the Charkha every day.
The Indian politician is supposed to serve the masses and be their servant. Earnest and devoted services of the masses is however rare in our country. Politics and politicians are indispensable just as parties are, whether the type of party is capitalist, socialist, independent or communist. We just cannot keep them out of society because almost everything in India today is mixed up in one way or other with politics. There is politics in education, religion, culture, arts and the cinema, in home and in offices. It would not be fair to paint every Indian politician with the same black brush and condemn him. . The exceptions are few. Politicians are quick to make tall promises and give high sounding assurances at election time, but once they are elected to a legislature for five years or so, they concentrate on safeguarding their future. In advanced countries such as the United States and United Kingdom, politicians do not specialise in dishonesty, false hood and make believe. They accept their defeat and are fair with the public. The profession of politics and politicians cannot be reformed and perhaps the day is not far off when with the spread of good education and enlightenment, honest and principled politics would emerge and gradually eliminate the black sheep from society.
.For a change, it would be better if
politicians, instead of being made
to represent a region or a State, are
made representatives of a CERTAIN
NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO HAS CHOSEN THE
POLITICIAN AS THEIR LEADER. If the
entire population of India is
divided by the number of politicians,
this would mean each politician will
be held more responsible to raise
the quality of people under his
jurisdiction. Why not give this
a serious thought!!!! Thanks,
