It's a fact established by research that sound sleep affects every human being in a positive way. Lack of good sleep breeds diseases and health related problems. The bottom line is that sleep is a necessity for our physical and mental health.

However busy your day schedule might be, but compromising on sleep can be a huge mistake. Your body and mind begin to suffer due to sleep deprivation.

More than discussing about the complications that could arise due to lack of sleep, it would be better to find out possible ways you could make up for lost sleep. One of the most appropriate solution is taking quick naps, although it does no go without saying that a quick nap during the day can never replace a good night's sleep.

Lack of night sleep has a negative impact on our healthy heart which could swell into heart-related health issues over time. Regular napping three or four times a week can avoid heart-related complications over time. Napping also helps in keeping a check on stress and anxiety levels.

Have you ever noticed that whenever you are tired, you end up craving for food. That usually happens when your body is sapped of energy. A quick 10-15 minute nap will help fight food cravings and also ensure that you don't intake those extra calories that you might have to burn with heavy workouts later.

So, now that you are aware of the benefits of taking short naps during the daytime, you should start developing the habit of napping regularly.

Early afternoon time, just after you've had your lunch is the best time to take a quick short nap. Napping too late in the afternoon or early evening can also interfere with your night sleep. It is always a better idea to set an alarm clock so that you don't oversleep and end up missing important appointments of the day.

As per popular belief, cool and dim places are the best environments for napping. Head should be kept slightly elevated with the help of a pillow or an arm of the couch.
