After the death of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, issues were raised as to who would be the next chief minister. A pro-Jagan campaign is being carried out by the ministers to crown Jagan Mohan Reddy as the CM of Andhra Pradesh.
AFTER ANDHRA Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was declared dead, issues were raised as to who would be the next chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. All rumours of Jagan Mohan Reddy being the next CM were put to rest when K Rosaiah was appointed as the interim chief minister.
However, there is still no clarity as to who would become the next CM. The question to be asked is whether the cabinet would still stick by Rosaish or would they let Jagan Mohan Reddy be crowned as the the next CM?
K Rosaiah in an interview to CNN IBN said that the Constitution has no provisions for an interim chief minister. A chief minister is a chief minister and as of now he is the CM of Andhra Pradesh. However, he also said that he would not have any problems in letting Jagan Mohan Reddy assume the post since there are representatives in the cabinet raising slogans for the same. He does not feel any awkwardness or any embarrassment when ministers demand the post of chief minister to be handed over to Jagan. He has completely left the decision with the Congress High Command at the Centre.
When asked if the ministers were hopeful of Jagan becoming the CM, G Aruna Kumari said in an interview to CNN IBN that they are still very hopeful that Jagan would be the next CM and have full faith in the judgment of the Centre.
However, the Centre doesn't seem to be in a hurry to take a decision. Instead it has clamped all demonstrations that are pro-Jagan.
KVP Ramachandran, the name instrumental behind the pro- Jagan campaigns was asked not to contradict Rosaiah and stop his demands immediately.
However, in spite of these steps taken by the Centre, they cannot control those thousands of people who surround YSR’s house everyday demanding Jagan to be the next CM.
Meanwhile, Rosaiah has been working from his old office and not the chief minister’s office. K Rosaiah is the oldest minister in the cabinet and was considered to be YSR’s right hand. Rosaiah was also the CM’s advisor in matters of importance.
After immediate steps to stop the pro-Jagan campaign by the Centre, there are no voices in favour of Jagan now, since they don't want to communicate wrong ideas and the centre get wrong signals.
But what people in Andhra Pradesh wonder is where would this slow tussle lead to? Is it the silence that precedes before a strong political storm in Andhra Pradesh? Well, all one can do is wait and watch while the drama unfolds.
