The story of Maya memsaheb
Mayawati, who claims to be the leader of the dalits, had earlier too earned the dissent of many when she allotted a major portion of the state funds for erection of statues of dalit icons when Uttar Pradesh was teetering under intense droughts.
BAHUJAN SAMAJ Party’s Mayawati had yet again successfully offended the nation some days ago and in an exceedingly decadent manner. The garland interlaced with thousand rupee notes which is estimated to be worth some crores that the leader of BSP bore round her neck on the event of the party’s silver jubilee was a blatant show of wealth, the source of which is surely quite fishy. The party celebration was extravagant in itself where crores of money were spent but it would not have bothered anybody as much had it been anybody’s personal assets, or from the party’s funds. Even it was the latter; the root source is bound to be illegal. Unfortunately, it looks to be the public money – the taxpayer’s money, which is been spend in dribs and drabs.

Mayawati, who claims to be the leader of the dalits, had earlier too earned the dissent of many when she allotted a major portion of the state funds for erection of statues of dalit icons when Uttar Pradesh was tettering under intense droughts. Promoting the party symbol was of higher priority to Mayawati than actual welfare of dalits. No doubts, she is a leader of the dalits and indeed has been working for them in her own good way, but that doesn’t exonerate her from normal moral behaviour that is critical to any conscientious civilisation.

The dalits would have preferred to see their own lives escalated from the grime and gloom instead of gawking at sumptuous statues of their icons carved out of marble. The 250 million plus number of dalits would have well gained had the cash from the brazen garland gone for their welfare. On this occasion, Maya’s ugly show of wealth was condemned by all major political parties as anticipated. But the United Progressive Alliance has been unable to curb the growing depravity of the BSP.

The I-T incursion ordered to probe the source of the whopping sum of money that went into the garland, if not influenced by highhanded men as always, is definitely going to unearth Mayawati’s ambiguous supply of money for it is unreal that the money was collected on spot as part of funds or donations. Mayawati who seem to be unmoved by the law, as is obvious, is also at present deluged with cases that includes extortion and unlawful amassing of wealth. In the past too the CBI had listed her disproportionate assets when Mayawati had attributed them to donations, as a smart camouflage technique. A PIL against the maha-rally was dismissed by the high court.

Bahujan Samaj Party, as the name suggests is a socialist party. It had floated in 1984.
