The wrong side of love
Be it the glam dolls of Bollywood or Hollywood, stories of actresses like Mandakini, Nagma, Monica Bedi, Mamta Kukarni and even Marilyn Monroe and Lana Turner falling for criminals and mobsters show how women can fall for the wrong men.

MANY A times, women cannot resist bad boys and fall for the wrong men. Be it Preity Zinta falling for the rich bully in Kya Kehna or Urmila Matondkar falling for the cunningly attractive college stud, Bobby Deol in Deewangi. For the Bollywood beauties, luck always seems to be on their side (in their reel life) and they end up living happily ever after, leaving behind all the bad times.

But life’s not all that rosy for theses beauties in real life. Be it the glam dolls of our very own Mumbai based film industry or the much loved Hollywood. The stories of actresses like Mandakini, Nagma, Monica Bedi, Mamta Kukarni and even Marilyn Monroe and Lana Turner, give testimony to this statement. Most of them have been in the spotlight for their much talked about criminal lovers, while some were divas in their own ways, which probably took them the wrong way.
Take Mandakini, who was known for making her debut in Ram Teri Ganga Maili. She was much talked about for her link up with the big Don himself- Dawood Ibrahim, though she has vehemently denied it. Photographs of the two together did rounds and it was also believed that she bore his child.
The iconic beauty, Marilyn Monroe, who inspired many a women and floored many a men, fell for the mobster and the enemy of the Kennedy family- Sam Gianca. They met, fell in love and this made life more miserable for her as she was already going through rough times. Theirs was a much talked about affair. What was more talked about was her death. It was believed that she committed suicide, but the gang said that it was a planned murder. The truth has still not been found.
Back in India, Monica Bedi received more news space for her link up with the most wanted gangster of the country, Abu Salem, the mastermind behind many attacks in the country. Abu gave her a shoulder to cry on after which they became a couple. Both were arrested and put behind bars. Monica was acquitted in 2007. She then came into the spotlight for her appearance in the reality show Big Boss, her soft corner for Rahul Mahajan and the affinity shown towards her by politician Sanjay Nirupam.
Similarly, Mamta Kulkarni, made news then for all the wrong reasons for posing topless, wearing a burqa, dancing at private functions and being backed by Chhota Rajan himself, who reportedly got her films like China Gate.
Nagma also faced much flak when she was accused of being involved with Anees Ibrahim, brother of Dawood Ibrahim and of her involvement in all their activities, which she denied on the grounds of it being politically motivated as she was linked with Congress then.
The most iconic such story is of forties star Lana Turner, who went through a roller coaster love life and fell in love with Johnny Stompanato. On finding out about his links with the underworld she tried breaking up with him but was caught in a web. Later, Johnny was killed by Lana’s own daughter, who claimed it was self defence.
