The youth must say no bribes if corruption is to be rooted out
The only answer to stopping corruption is that all of us, especially the youth, become self-disciplined by not giving or taking bribe in any manner. Are we willing?

A LEADING newspaper carried out a survey on corruption by asking people questions such as have you ever paid a bribe; have you stopped someone from giving a bribe; have you paid a policeman to avoid a costly challan; and have you bribed someone to get important documents.

As per the survey, Lucknow tops the ranking for the youth thinking that Indians are more tolerant of corruption than those in other cities. The only answer to all the above queries is that we should be self-disciplined enough to not to take any bribe. Let people bring this into practice and see the result themselves. Yes, taking the hard way could result in more time to get our work done - but if everyone does it then those willing to accept a bribe will get the message. Let us not adopt short cut methods - provide the desired documents, complete the laid down formalities, etc., to curtail the need to give a bribe.

Corruption has become almost a daily practice and nothing moves without it since our system from the top to the bottom is defective and requires an overhaul. But who is going to bell the cat is the real question and the need of the hour. Every youth wants to avoid wastage of time, money and energy and thus adopts undesired tactics to get the job done. They are always willing to pay a bribe.

If this is the case why blame the babus or the cops? It’s only we who are to be blamed and none else who are encouraging corruption every where. Let us stop corruption by not accepting or giving any more bribes. Can we do it?
