There's need of showing patriotism everyday, not on a single particular day!
When we talk about patriotism it comes up as a feeling or an urge to work for the nation, to be of some use in the safety and development of own country, a feeling of respect for the nation and a sense of belonging.

The Heroes who fought against the British rule were full of this feeling, the war Heroes of our Indian Defence Forces who fought and won the wars and laid their life for safety of the Motherland and even today serving or retired are full of this feeling, and the ones who come on the road against a corrupt system too are full of this feeling. But is the Patriotism only about it, flying the flag, having sweets and celebrating the Independence Day or the Republic Day and go back home thinking we have fulfilled our responsibility?

The patriotism has a deeper meaning. It is directly connected with the people of the country. It is more of 'Act' than of 'Feel'. When we see someone littering on the road this feeling of patriotism should heat up and convert into an act of stopping him, when some anti-social elements indulge themselves into eve teasing this feeling should force you to stop them and save that girl.

When old parents are sent to the old age homes by their greedy and insensitive sons this feeling should rise and make them understand their place in the society. When all such acts of dowry, domestic violence, and female feoticide, child marriage and discrimination happen, this feeling should urge you to act against them. This in real sense would be a feeling of Patriotism.

We celebrated our 69th Independence Day yesterday, our ex-servicemen were in a hope to get something out of our government in their favour in the form of declaration on One Rank One Pension. We did not talk on the issues like the Cross Border Terrorism, we did not talk about the unproductive Monsoon Session, and we also did not talk about the 11,000 officers lacking in the Armed forces, we also did not talk about the increasing number of crime against women, and child trafficking. Don't these issues heat up a feeling, if yes, then that feeling is Patriotism. That feeling is far more than just flying the flag.

We shall not call it as a pessimistic approach if on the auspicious day of our Independence we are talking about these issues. The action was missing. An attempt of curtaining the mistakes does not correct them rather even worsen. Today's generation has a materialistic approach and the actions guided by emotions have a secondary place.

We want to earn well, we want to assure our own safety first, we want to escape from the problems rather than facing them, we tend to think "this is not about me". Independence received without efforts gets converted into freedom and people start ignoring its importance.

Had the same materialistic approach our freedom fighters held, we would have not been celebrating Independence Day. Ironically, having this approach continued we would only be hoisting flag, having sweets and wishing happy independence day, but would never be independent in real sense.

The pious felling and pure acts of Patriotism do not need a day to be displayed. We need to get united against those who are working against this country in any form, we need to keep our country clean, we need to come forward to fight for our rights and at the same time working towards our duties. It is about becoming a real Citizen of the country. Every day is an Independence Day only if we keep this flame of Patriotism alive in our Hearts.
