Thermal units down, Haryana grapples with power cuts

Haryana is facing long power cuts in this lean season as five thermal units are under shut down due to technical snags.

BOTH UNITS of 1200 MW Khedar thermal plant are down reducing the power generation by about 240 lac units daily with assumption of 80% plant load factor. Boiler leakage has been detected in one unit and second unit is facing air pre heater problems. 250 MW unit no. 7 at Panipat is under annual maintenance up to first week of January. Unit no. 4 at Panipat is having boiler leakage problem.

One 660 MW unit at Jhajjar is under forced outage due to coal shortage problem for few weeks. The second unit is running at full load. At Yamuna Nagar thermal the second unit which is under forced outage since March 31 this year is likely to be revived by the end of January.

The power availability from HPGCL’s own sources is about 2050MW and total power available is around 4325 MW. The maximum power demand in the state is around 5052 MW.

The state is overdrawing from grid to a limited extent as other states are not resorting to power over drawing. On Sunday, the state overdrew about 80 lac units by 1PM.

Most parts of Haryana, including major cities are facing more than 6 to 8 hour power cuts. Industrial consumers faced longer power cuts over and above the scheduled six-hour shut down. The only exception is Kurukshetra where the Gita Jayanti Samaroh is going on.

It may be added that despite sufficient capacity addition the performance of units at Yamuna Nagar & Khedar is suffering due to quality of Chinese equipment used by Reliance, said a spokesperson of All India Power Engineers Federation.
