Think twice before eating some 'healthy' food items
Before you start adding any new so-called super foods to your diet, make sure you fully understand the risks. While a few healthy food items have numerous benefits, they can also cause harm.
SUPER FOODS are recognized for their healing properties since ancient times, being used as adjuvant therapy in many diseases. Such food items are all the rage with the fitness revolution.
But here are some of them to be consumed with caution.

Grapefruit: increased risk of breast cancer

Because of its high content of naringenina, which is intended to balance blood sugar, grapefruit can help prevent metabolic syndrome, diabetes precursor condition. But because it increases estrogen levels in the body, grapefruit is not indicated for women, as it increases the risk of breast cancer. Thus, a quarter of a grapefruit increases breast cancer risk by 30 per cent, according to U.S. researchers.

But do not forget that grapefruit is an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber, vitamin A, potassium, folate, vitamin B5 and lycopene. If consumed in moderation and not every day, grapefruit can bring health benefits. Do not forget to talk to your doctor, if you are under treatment, because certain substances in grapefruit can influence drug action.

Fatty fish: increased risk of diabetes

Mackerel, sardines and salmon are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to protect against cardiovascular and neurological diseases. Also, do not miss any vitamins A and D. But we have to take into account that a high consumption increases the risk of diabetes, because pesticides are found in high fat and accumulates in fish, preventing the body's ability to produce insulin.

Experts say it is enough to consume 140 g of oily fish a week, children and pregnant women can eat two servings a week.
 
Soybeans: metabolism affects

Besides the many benefits it brings, soy contains chemicals that prevent the digestion of proteins, blocking the absorption of minerals and affect metabolism. Also, genistein and daidzein from soybean have an identical action of estrogen and may affect fertility. British Nutrition Foundation recommends moderate consumption of soy, no more than one serving of a product based on unprocessed soybeans.
 
Bell peppers: increased risk of stomach cancer

Although it is known to improve blood circulation and reduce cancerous tumors,  hot peppers can increase the risk of stomach cancer by 15 per cent in people who consume a daily hot peppers, according to a study by Yale University
 
So, be careful of the quantity consumed: no more than 3 per week. It seems that hot peppers alter protective barrier of the stomach, leading to an increased risk of ulcers, acid stomach, indigestion and heartburn.
