A good number of floats in the procession are going to display the State’s achievements in various fields. Also, the prizes would be presented at a function to be held at the Central Stadium at 10 pm today evening.
In Kerala, Onam is celebrated for ten days - Atham is the first day and Thiruvonam is the final day of the celebration. People wear new clothes, decorate their houses and put flower carpet called 'Pookalam' in front of their houses, to welcome the King Mahabali.
Besides the state level celebration in the capital city, special pujas are offered in the temples early morning and younger members take blessings and gifts from elders in the family.
Furthermore, during Onam, traditional rituals are performed, followed by a lavish feast with twenty-one homemade curries and sweet payasam on plantain leaf. At some places in the state, carnivals of elephants, fireworks display, boat races, music, traditional marshal art displays, and the famous Kathakali dances are organised.
