This monsoon let your skin talk
Monsoons spell pleasant weather as it brings a respite from the sultry summers. Allow your skin to feel the change too. You actually need to do very little to make this season a splendid time for your skin by following a simple skin care regime.
THE MONSOONS are here, this time earlier than before. The rains and romantic breeze is back and your skin, it is just not behaving! This is because during monsoons, you tend to ignore your skin and hair. There is no visible sun, hence the sunscreen is reduced to a show piece on your dressing table; the moisturiser too begins to feel left out due to increased humidity. This gives your skin enough reason to take its own sweet revenge on you by behaving badly.

Monsoons spell pleasant weather as it brings a respite from the sultry summers. Allow your skin to feel the change too. You actually need to do very little to make this season a splendid time for your skin by following a simple but effective skin care regime.

Here are a few tips from Dr Sangeeta Amladi, Head Medical Services at Kaya Skin Clinic on taking care of your skin and hair this monsoon.

Skincare
  • Exfoliate your skin. Try to use a soap free cleanser.
  • Use an alcohol free toner, since increased humidity could open up your pores.
  • Use a sunscreen even on a cloudy day. Contrary to popular belief, UV radiations are capable of penetrating the clouds.
  • Use a light lotion based moisturiser. This will gently rehydrate your skin and also brighten it up.
  • Just because it is raining, don’t reduce consumption of water. Drink your usual eight to ten glasses of water. Your skin is always thirstier than you are!
Care of feet
  • Do you like grime and muck settling on your feet? No, right? So, clean your feet regularly during the monsoons.
  • Do not forget to completely dry your feet so as to prevent fungal infections.
  • Avoid wearing boots- they make your feet soggy.
  • Home pedicure should be done once a week. It would consist of soaking feet in warm water to which you can add three to four drops of Savlon, for 15-20 minutes. Complete the pedicure by applying light glycerin based moisturiser.
Hair

  • Use a volumising shampoo, twice or thrice a week.
  • Post-shampoo do use a volumising conditioner, once a week or as required.
  • If you need to blow dry your hair, apply a leave-on conditioner prior to it.
  • Oiling once a week would help.
  • Incorporate milk and milk products, nuts, soya products into your diet as they help hair stay healthy.
Enjoy the rains and have a safe monsoon with these tips, prescribed by Dr Sangeeta Amladi - Head Medical Services at Kaya Skin Clinic.
