IN WHAT seems to be an incredibly touching and bold gesture by the many in Gujarat, the girls have decided to get their backs and arms tattoed with messages, which convey the idea of saving the girl child.
The onus can be handed over to the girls from the textile and diamond industry of Surat. They have decided to include a little but very important message with the festivities that of spreading awareness about the imminent need to save the girl child in this country before it is too late.
The message tattooed on the backs and arms of these girls read, "beti bachao, beto se badhkar betiia" ( save girl child, girls better than boys ). It is a refreshing change to see the youth acting up and involving themselves in more than just talk.
An activist propagating the idea said, "they have utilised the festival to convey this message effectively to the people removing their conception that girl child is burden to family."
