Three-day compensatory secondary education workshop in Jaipur emphasizes use of visual support material
Recently, a three-day workshop on preparation of compensatory education material for the rural girls at risk of failure was held in Niwai block of Rajasthan in seminar room of CULP-NGO in Jaipur.

The workshop was marked with the development of visual support material for learning different subjects. A video film on the use of dual code support material in one-to-one situation was produced and up-loaded on YouTube for wider dissemination.

The purpose of the workshop was to produce the exemplary material on two main study skills for the last three lessons of three subjects, namely, English, mathematics and science. This time the glossary of CULP's model of compensatory education was also reinforced among the participants for their common and share understanding of the initiative.

The workshop attended by 13 teachers and field functionaries, a 32-page material was developed to give a feel for 'read-to-learn skills and develop' the background of the chapters of the three main subjects of Class X.

The material will be used at the compensatory education centers in the rural habitations in Jhilay village of Niwai block.

Besides, the exemplary material to systematize the classroom processes, the workshop has resulted in the development mechanism to read textbooks and make a sense of textual material. The vocabulary building, which is a precursor of understanding any subject, will get enhanced through the developed material for better performance.

It was felt that the workshop would enable teachers to relate their teaching of various topics to actual content of the textbook effectively and efficiently.

With the focus on reading skills and enhanced competence of teachers through the workshop, they will be able to perform well with preparation and mastery over the content and hence better learning outcomes.
