Three-day festival to mark birth anniversary of Sant Kabir held in Varanasi
Three-day Kabir Jayanti Mahotsava, to mark the birth anniversary of mystic Bhakti saint and social reformer is being celebrated in Varanasi's Lahartara with great devotion and fevour by his followers called Kabir Panthis.

The celebrations that began on June 19 were marked by processions or shobhayatras and collective singing of his couplets and devotional songs. The festival was at its peak on June 20, the birth anniversary of Sant Kabir. The festival will conclude on the evening of June 21.

Sant Kabir was a 15th-century Indian mystic poet and Bhakti saint, whose writings influenced social reformists and many of his verses were included the Adi Granth of Sikhism. He had criticised the meaningless and illogical rites and rituals of both Hinduism and Islam.

Here are some of Kabir's teachings expressed in Haiku by me.

Rid gross behaviour. / Give up ego and anger. / Spread love, amity.

Promote Love of God, / Tend love of humanity. / Sing for love of God.

Get salvation. / Purify body-n-mind. / Despite religion.

Sever bondages. / Detach from perishable things. / Hug simplicity.

Repeat Satyanaam. /Quietly within to realize /The Real inner self.

Revere your Guru. / Who Dispelled your ignorance. / To attain Godhead.
