Three-day residential training on multi-grade teaching organized in Udaipur
Three-day training on Multi-Grade Teaching (MGT) was organized in Udaipur by the Centre for Unfolding Learning Potentials – a Jaipur-based NGO that specializes in the methodology. The training was received by 28 teachers of Maa-Bari Kendras (MBKs) – small schools being run by Tribal Area Development (TAD) Department of Rajasthan.

Training supported by UNICEF-Jaipur was conducted by four resource persons who had prepared a training module that emphasized three-stage learning consisting of teacher-directed learning, group learning and individual practice with immediate reinforcement as part of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) based on formative assessment. The training was met with positive reactions by the participants.

Since in a multi-grade situation, one teacher has to teach two or more classes simultaneously, the group and individual learning material on every-day basis allows the teacher move from one class to another when students get engaged with the learning material in the form of two different types of worksheets, said MGT an expert.

The MBKs have been opened in the tribal belts of Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Sirohi (Abu-Road) and Baran. A training module for 12-day training in four phases will universalize training in all the MBKs through around 70 master trainers for MGT strategy. A six-day module for training of master trainers is in the offing for their training in February.
