Few days back, the Muncipal Corporation of Gurgaon chief, Praveen Kumar had stated that he will soon convert Sadar Bazaar into a tourist destination, on the lines of Dilli Haat. No concrete plans have been set up, as of now, but the chief said that ''excellent parking facilities needs to be provided to the tourists.'' They need to have an advertisement plan first.
But, this plan
has not been taken in open arms by MCG councillors. Mangat Ram Bagri,
MCG Councillor said, ''It is good if the idea can be implemented,
but, it might not turn out to be a reality. The administrators of MCG
lack right intentions as well as policy to carry out such work.''
councillor, Rishi Raj Rana does not see the need for MCG to come up
with such plans, when the basic needs of the people have not been
addressed. He said, ''Rather than such plans, the MCG should look
into various other needs of the people in Gurgaon, such as water,
sewer, electricity, drainage, which is a major problem in the city.
After all these basic needs are met, then they can try to achieve
such bigger plans.''
So, when Praveen
Kumar was told about his MCG councillors as to what they think, he
said, ''No one is upbeat about such development plan and that is not
Sadar Bazaar is
the oldest market in the city and converting it into a tourist
destination would remove the city of its charm and also pose as a
huge problem for the shopkeepers in the market. ''There is no benefit
in converting such bazaar into a tourist destination. In fact, this
plan of MCG spells a kick in the stomach for shopkeepers in the
market,'' said Rana.
