DURING PRESENT times, plane travel can be full of irritation, delays and disturbance. Whilst we all recognise the need for such security measures to be taken and are now somewhat resigned to the almost inevitable problems that we know will come up, there are a few things that we can do to lessen them.
  • Always book your tickets with a trustworthy and dependable airline. If a person has not travelled with a particular airline before one should gather information about the same. It is easy these days as information is available on the click of a button on the internet.

Steer clear of bucket shops and independent discount agents unless they are well known to you, or you know someone who has used them and can give you a personal recommendation. Ensure with your airline for any special deals. Sometimes just shifting your departure date by a day or so can provide you a great saving.

Always check your tickets to make certain that they are precisely what you asked for and that you have the exact and confirmed booking.

  • Check with the airline, their baggage requirements/specifications before hand. You should know the number of items allowed, weight, size, etc. Tag all your bags properly with name and destination details. It is best to put a tag with your home address details inside your suit case to prevent opportunist thieves getting them and robbing your house while you are away.

Baggage is frequently opened on arbitrary basis by airport security. These days it is advisable to lock your luggage using a TSA (travel sentry administration) lock. These are locks of high quality and will protect your baggage. They can also be unlocked and re-locked by United States airport staff using one of the unique TSA keys that they all now have.

  • Pack all your necessary items, such as travel documents, passport, medication, etc into your carry-on bag. Maybe also carry a few items of clothing. That way if your luggage gets lost you won't be completely screwed.

Do make certain to double check what you are and are not allowed to take on board and follow the rules completely. Don't carry any banned items on board (or attempt to that is).

  • Ensure that all electronic items are fully charged and are within the rules appropriate for that airline. Some airlines do not permit the use of mobile phones in flight.
