For certain scenes, night photography offers a splendor and depth of colours. With a few tips one can take good photographs even during the night when there's insufficient data.
DIWALI DAYS are round the corner and buildings and houses are getting lighted up, and it's the right time to try one's hands with night photography. The festival lights spell a charm if photographed against the dark sky if such a location and angle is available. If you have a tripod, so much the better since it provides the flexibility to change the angles and keep the camera steady for longer exposures. But, one can do well with a firm grip or solid perch for the camera.

Use wide-angle lenses for a better effect. Also, use a lens hood to reduce the effect of surrounding light from artificial illumination. Never use a flash light for shooting festival lights or illuminated buildings. Set your digital camera to the highest ISO value, aperture and exposure time along with a steady perch for the camera with normal picture composition rules to practice night photography.
