To prove a point with a completely pointless Flash mob
They just want to have fun and that is the only point the flash mobers wants to prove. After the last disaster how will Delhi react this time? The organizer of the latest Fash Mob in Delhi spoke with meirnews.com.
THE SUCCESS of Mumbai’s flash mob was overshadowed by the subsequent failure of the flash mob that was conducted in Delhi. Although Mumbai’s success was huge but after the failure of the Delhi’s mob, a number of people actually thought of the idea and started conceptualising some future flashes. Although, it is a very new concept for the Indian community, in the West this happens all the time. This is another thing that we have borrowed from the West, and the first ever Flash that took place was in Manhattan in 2003. The coinage means an ‘unusual and pointless act.’ Speaking to the head of one of the members of the organiser ByeDefault, who is bringing together another flash around Christmas, merinews.com got an insight into this pointless, or many will say pointed, act, which actually provides ‘thrill’ to the people in it.
When asked as to why they want to perform a flash mob inspite of the last failure, Mudit Karla of ByeDefault said that the first one was not organised by them and they just want to do it for the enjoyment. Flash mob, for the owner of ByeDeafault, who is also heading the flash mob page on Facebook, is just enjoying the moment and creating a community. On being questioned as to will he support the flash mob that is being organised by the India Against Corruption campaign - aiming to support Anna Hazare, he said that their main objective for now was, “to have fun and since they do not believe in the cause thus they would not support, but possibilities of supporting such a cause in the future is not an alien idea.”
The idea of a flash mob is basically just to have fun and that was evident in the Mumbai flash mob that took place on 27 November 2011. Even at the end of the performance the people gathered to watch the show, enjoyed the whole event, and many had joined in, which cannot be said for the Delhi people as the cops did not give it time to take up pace. While Mumbai saw people tapping their toes to ‘Rang de Basanti’, Delhi wanted to do a ‘Delhi 6’ song.
The entire thing is done in secret and the idea is to spring on the public with a performance, as flash mob is not always about dancing. Anyone can register with the group, and be a part of it. Mudit, again and again said that flash is more than dancing (so all you bad dancers are free to join), and in the near future they would just act mad. The youths are very excited about the whole thing, and there are many who would like to try it out. In a stressful environment, where people eve tease for fun and kill people, this is a safe yet very different way to have a bit of fun. Let’s see how Delhi reacts to the next flash mob and whether this time the authorities are as welcoming as the youth.
